On Friday, February 7, CCP released a devblog with the final totals of the PLEX for GOOD campaign in support of the volunteers battling the Australian Bushfire crisis.
The most recent PLEX for GOOD campaign ran from January 15 to January 26, and the EVE Online community donated a grand total of 2,687,693 PLEX, with an equivalent value of $107,454 USD. According to CCP, this also equates to somewhere in the region of 448 years of game subscription time, or 9.14 Trillion ISK on the in-game market.
These totals make 2020’s campaign the second-most successful PLEX for GOOD campaign ever. The biggest donation from EVE players was in 2013, when Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines with devastating effect. The Australian bushfires have been no less devastating, and any player who made a donation should feel proud to have been part of this fantastic effort. CCP officially handed over the donation totals to the Icelandic Red Cross at CCP’s Reykjavik headquarters. The Icelandic Red Cross will now facilitate the transferral of those funds to Australia, where the funds will be used to help mitigate any further damage from the bushfires that are still ongoing.
Of course, any article on this campaign would be remiss to exclude the auction of Kelon Darklight’s Gold Magnate, one of only two surviving from the Amarr Succession Trials of 2016. This was purchased by Youtube personality Scott Manley, known in-game as “Illectroculus Defined”, for a grand total of 1 million and one PLEX. The equivalent value is roughly 3.75 trillion ISK, or ~$35,000 USD, and is an absolutely astounding single donation to such a worthwhile cause.
